The Opportunity

We're looking for a caring and passionate Occupational Therapist to support and empower individuals living with mental illness and / or psycho social disability to develop and enhance their skills in relation to independent living, emotion/and sensory processing regulation, and to manage any internal dysregulation. 

This is a full-time maximum term opportunity. The role will be based North Ryde and Ashfield and support the surrounding suburbs.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm with flexible start and finishing times.

You will report to the Clinical Manager of the Sydney Region.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertake assessments and intervention planning using an evidence based person centred approach
  • Provide OT services to customers as required
  • Provide expert advice, training and clinical assistance to New Horizons employees and associated agencies, on clinical issues and initiatives to assist in meeting the Occupational needs of customers
  • Provide OT specific reports to assist customers in their application and transition to the NDIS
  • Development of appropriate goals and care plans in collaboration with customer and family/carer
  • Commitment to maintaining professional expertise through ongoing professional development, external supervision and up to date knowledge of OT practices
  • In consultation with Clinical Manager,  develop and deliver OT specific group therapies
  • Support other regions with clinical support where appropriate 

 

Skill and Experience:

  • Experience working with people with a mental illness and / or psycho social disability and provide community/home based assessments, interventions
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Current understanding of the issues, trends and approaches underpinning the provision of services to people living with a mental illness and their families and carers
  • Experience in delivering group based therapies
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office and systems for reporting
  • NSW Drivers Licence, Police Check/Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all stakeholders
  • Customer-centred approach
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to work autonomously in a complex environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with AHPRA

Your own transport and willingness to travel between suburb locations is required. A willingness to obtain an Australian Federal Police Check, WWCC and first aid certificate that meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us.
