The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Intake and Assessment Officer to support customers experiencing homelessness and provide support to tenants at risk of homelessness, by addressing the issues that are placing their tenancies at risk.

The service also works with people who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless and/or living in unsustainable and unsafe accommodation to assist them to rapidly find suitable long term accommodation.

This is a full-time maximum term opportunity for 12 months, with the potential for extension. Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4.30 pm.

You will report to the Customer Service Manager in our Enabling and Life Building Customer Segment. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide a 'No wrong door approach' to clients entering New Horizons offices
  • Manage the intake of referrals
  • Make referrals on behalf of the clients to other specialist homelessness services
  • Provide follow up to clients post housing
  • Support Case Workers manage brokerage for clients in line with FACs brokerage guidelines
  • Document clear and concise records, submit reports as required
  • Undertake  administrative tasks and projects as allocated

 

Skill and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with people homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience in client assessment, including determining risk, duty of care and program suitability
  • Sound knowledge of and experience in coordinating with local services
  • Capacity to relate to people from differing cultural backgrounds
  • Well developed understanding of work health and safety practices
  • Well developed communication and prioritisation skills
  • Passion for the sector and supporting vulnerable people
  • Technical literacy with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and systems for reporting
  • A current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel across the Port Macquarie area
  • Willingness to obtain an Australian Federal Police Check, WWCC and first aid certificate that meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us.
